Dona Maria Francisca of Savoy, Queen of Portugal, created in 1677, in Óbidos, the cherry liqueur inspired by the French "Liqueur de Griottes". The recipe, approved by the Portuguese Royal House, quickly spread among the nobility and the upper bourgeoisie, becoming a symbol of distinction and hospitality.
